About ausEE

ausEE Inc. is the national support and patient advocacy organisation representing Australians living with an eosinophil-associated disease (EAD). We extend our support and advocacy to people in New Zealand and their whānau.
We are a registered Australia wide charity whose mission is to improve the lives of those affected by eosinophilic diseases by providing support, evidence-based information, resources, and advocacy, and by campaigning to raise awareness and funds for research in Australia. We support the tube feeding community, as EADs are among the many conditions that may require a feeding tube to meet nutritional needs. ausEE’s Feeding Tube Aware campaign raises awareness, shares information and resources, and provides support and connections to unite the community.
Please visit the ausEE website to learn more.
Fundraising is crucial for ausEE to provide support and education to the eosinophilic and tube feeding community and to fund much needed medical research. ausEE Inc. is a Health Promotion Charity endorsed by the Australian Taxation Office as a deductible gift recipient. We acknowledge all donations $100 and over in our Annual Report. Please consider a donation today to support our cause.

What are Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Diseases (EGIDs)?

EGIDs occur when eosinophils (pronounced ee-oh-sin-oh-fills), a type of white blood cell, are found in above-normal amounts within the gastrointestinal tract. Eosinophilic oesophagitis (EoE) is the most common EGID and the current estimated prevalence is 1 in 1,000 people. Symptoms vary from one individual to the next and can include: feeding difficulty, poor appetite, difficulty swallowing, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, failure to thrive and food impaction. One treatment option of EoE is an elemental diet which consists of only a special medical food called an elemental formula, which contains amino acids (the building blocks of proteins), fats, sugars, vitamins and minerals. They provide all the nutrition a person needs if enough is taken. Some individuals need a feeding tube to ensure they are getting enough of the formula or to give the oesophagus a rest or for patients with failure to thrive. Endoscopy with biopsies is the only way to confirm the diagnosis of an EGID at present. The diagnosis cannot be based upon symptoms alone. Download our EGID Fact Sheet for more information on EGIDs.
